Hidden Mothers in early Victorian Photography:
Because of the incredibly long exposure times of early photography, mothers would cleverly disguise themselves as curtains, hangings, potted plants etc in order to keep baby sat still long enough for the final image - and may have been cropped to exclude them, or not as is the case here.
Creepy, funny and fascinating stuff. Ties in well with the memento mori images I posted in the past on the blog.

These are great. Got mine today from Amazon. Little duvet like mitts for your hands called Mummy Mitts. They attach to the pram so you can pull your hands out quickly to tend to baby or answer your phone without faffing around or losing a glove. Very clever.
